Poker Tips:

Don't Fool Yourself

To play poker well, you must be both aggressive and honest. While anyone who has played poker can understand that the aggressive player who takes control of the game has the best chance of winning big, it takes some thought to know why honesty plays a part.

You would think honesty has not place in poker since victory often come from fooling your opponents, making them believe you have a stronger hand than you really do so they will fold rather than raise. Bluffing is an integral part of poker and honesty has no place there.

Hoever, you must always be honest with yourself. While it is essential you lie to the other players at the table, you must never lie to yourself. Never try to convince yourself that you are a better player than you really are and stay in a game with stronger opponents. Never try to stay in the game if you are tired, thinking you are fine when you are really fuzzy-brained with fatigue. Never tell yourself "just one more bet" when you know you should stop.

Always remember that if you are not improving your game you are wasting your money, time, and effort. So always be honest with yourself and play to learn and improve your skills. Don't build yourself up too much, but likewise don't judge yourself too harshly. Just do your best and be true to your real skill level.

Nobody is perfect and everyone can improve. Just remember that and always be honest with yourself about your play and you should continue to get better.
